She'd been in touch with the Winnipeg customer, but hadn't heard back to see if this was agreeable.Ĭlick to expand.Yup, they arrived this morning. It's about 950 miles as the crow flies, so I could only chuckle and say, "Well, put it this way: is Denver very far from where you're sitting right now?"Īnyway, given the vagaries of cross-border mail, we agreed that it would probably be quicker (and cheaper) for all concerned if a direct exchange could be arranged. The employee I spoke with asked if Winnipeg was very far. They were shipping two parcels to Canada that day, and the wrong customs declaration form got stuck to each envelope, so there's a chap in Winnipeg who was expecting a DVD and got the Reader's Digest CD. I sent off a quick e-mail to Croces restaurant, and within the hour got a phone call back. and was immediately disappointed to find that they'd sent me a DVD called Jim Croce Live. Got to my desk, grabbed the scissors and fought my way into the envlope. But they'd sealed it with some extra-sticky carton tape. It's a three-kilometre walk to work (it's only one if I go in a straight line, but I like to weave through the neighbourhood) and the urge to open the envelope en route was quite powerful. It wouldn't fit through the letter slot in our front door, so the letter carrier tucked it between the screen door and the front door, so I found it as I stepped out on my way to the office.
